WIRELESS IN HOTELS
NOT CONSIDERED DESIRABLE DECISION AT PAEROA (From Our Oxen Correspondent) PAEROA, To-day. A listening-in set as an adjunct of a public bar is not considered desirable by the Ohinemuri Licensing Committee. At the quarterly meeting of the committee, Mr. E. A. Porritt, solicitor, said he had been requested by the licensee of the Commercial Hotel at Paeroa, to obtain the opinion of the committee with respect to working wireless sets in public bars. The landlord, Mr. E. P. Fathers, in common with other licensed houses in Ohinemuri, said he had installed an efficient wireless set in his hotel in order to be up to a modern standard. He had done so for the entertainment of permanent boa.rders and travellers. It was a great benefit to footballers who looked forward to results from Auckland and other places. The chairman, Mr. F. W. Platt, S.M., reminded Mr. Porritt that the committee had considered the question, and decided that permission would not be granted. Police-Sergeant Colwell said it was not desirable to have wireless sets in rooms near public bars. The chairman considered that wireless should not be used as a means of drawing custom to the house.
