Wordy Warfare on Swimming Centre

The special meeting of the Auckland Swimming Centre called this week to consider - the lowering of membership fees by the Ponsonby and Devonport clubs was marked at times by the use of some intemperate expressions. In the first place, Mr. Prust Stewart, a solicitor, was invited to attend by the Ponsonby delegates present, that was no reason for the attitude adopted by one or two members. It would have been in better taste had these delegates couched their disapproval in different terms, but they were more candid than courteous. Personalities are regrettable in conducting discussions. Arguments on any committee or controlling body are unavoidable, but such arguments at least can be carried on in good taste.. Such expressions as “Bolshies” and “Red-Feds’ ’are not usually associated with a meeting of swimmers, and it is to be hoped that future discussions j are carried on without recourse to exI pressions which are best left to sub- : urban local bodies. —Eight-Beat.
