To representations made recently by members of Parliament interested, to the Railway Department on the subject of running a night express from Wellington to Napier and New Plymouth, the Minister of Railways, Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, has replied that the additional traffic likely to be induced would not warrant the cost, which would be out of all proportion to the receipts. In addition to the train staffs, extra men would he required at every station at higher rates of pay for night w o:rk. and sleepers would also have to be provided.
