the Auckland Harbour Board purchasing committee, is evidently determined that there shall be no waste. “We can sell the cases for fourpence, and the tins should also be worth something/' he said in the course of a discussion yesterday on the relative cheapness of benzine out of the tap or by case. Mr. Macindoe stated that the committee was limited to the purchase of 50 cases at a time, but better c uotation could be obtained if larger iuantities could be ordered. He suggested the purchase of 2,000 cases wit a delivery spread over eight months. Mr. Campbell Johnstone thought that the tar k method was cheaper.
Mr. Macindoe: Yes, that is all right, but we can’t get the ships on shcrc. Later Mr. Macindoe explained that in the present instance case b« could also be obtained at a cheaper rate.
The committee was authorised to purchase 2,000 cases on the condition suggested.
