ROYAL GUESTS.—The Duke and Duchess of York attended a dinner party given at Claridge’s by Sir Granville Ryrie Australian High Commissioner in London. —A. and N.Z. WESTRALIA SOLD.—The steamer Westralia, well-known on the New Zealand coast, has been solde to be used as a hulk for the storage of copra at Rabaul. —A. and N.Z. SYDNEY CONTROL.—Referring to the proposal of the Sydney City Council to take- a referendum of the people on the question of its abolition, the Premier, Mr. T. R. Bvin, said the suggestion was quite impossible, as the Bill before Parliament proposed the abolition, and the new order would be ushered in with its passage.—A. and N.Z. CANADA’S MIGRATION.—As a result of an interprovincianl conference the Canadian Government is embarking on a new unrestricted migration scheme from Britain based on nomination, firstly by friends, and secondly by descriptive nomiation whereby the employer applies for the worker whom he wishes to settle in Canada.—Sun.
