diversion at devonport SOMETHING LIKE A BONFIRE At 815 o'clock on Saturday evening while the ceremony of execrating Guy Fawkes by igniting fireworks was bemg thoroughly enjoyed at Devonport, a diversion was caused by a bonfire spreading into an acre patch of chopped down gorse which was ready (or the match. In a very brief space of time a huge blaze had attracted a big audience, particularly of juveniles who found this “real fLre” more interisting than the “bon.” Section fences at the foot of Hasting Parade were threatened by the flames, but the Devonport Fire Brigade rushed out a long length of hose tnd to the accompaniment of hearty eheers doused the blaze.
