“THE CRADLE SNATCHERS”
COMING TO AUCKLAND “The Cradle Snatchers” will take possession of His Majesty’s Theatre on Thursday night next. According to reports it will be a night of uncontrollable laughter. It is a farce-comedy, in which the pace is on from the moment the curtain goes up. When the three husbands of the three “snatchers” have left on their shooting party the ladies get busy, and, with their fellow conspirators, keep the house in a roar. The success achieved, is a triumph, in the main, for the three clever actresses who impersonate the wive— Miss Olive Sloane, Mis Jessamine Newcombe and Miss Bertha Belmore. Miss Sloan sets the tempo for the orchestra of fun, and the other two keep step. They are the liveliest trio of feminine comedians that will be seen for a long time. The second act, in which the youngsters from college make love to the ladies who have engaged them for the purpose, is easily the most hilarious. In the hands of less experienced actors and actresses' it might become too. broadly farcical. There are situations that send the house into hysterics. There is a rare personal charm in the vivacity of the two younger women —their clothes, by the way, are staggering—and Miss Belmore acts as an admirable foil. The three young fellows who are “snatched” are played on conventional farce lines by Jack Halloran, Maury Tuckerman and Fred. Conyngham. The most freakish note is struck by Mr. Tuckerman, as the alleged Swede, but all do well. Others prominent in the cast are Sydney Stirling, Arthur Connell, Herbert Belmore and Lucille Lisle. “The Cradle Snatchers” will be a great laughing success. The box plans will be opened on Tuesday morning next.
