THIRD-TERM PRESIDENT

ASKING COOLIDGE TO RUN REPUBLICAN DISCORD By Caule.—Press Association. —Copyright WASHINGTON, Monday. Senator W. E. Borah stated today that if the Republican leaders persist in talking about the renomination of Mr. Coolidge for the Presidency, an attempt will be made in the Senate to carry through a resolution opposing third terms. Before Mr. Coolidge made his statement about not choosing to stand, Senator R. M. La Follette had arranged to revive his resolution opposing third terms, but after the statement the plan was allowed to lapse, as Mr. La Follette said he believed the President did not intend to stand. Another important development in thp pre-convention fight for the Republican Presidential nomination occurred to-day, when Senator Peter Norbeck announced that he would support the candidacy of Mr. F. O. Lowden, formerly Governor of Illinois, as the most acceptable to the agricultural interests. He intimated that discord among the ranks of the Farmer-Progressives of the middle west and north-west would be fatal to their cause, and result only in them being ignored in the National Republican Convention. The Republicans, who were anxious to run Mr. Coolidge, had hoped that Mr. Norbeck would join with them. They have found much food for thought in this announcement.—A. and N.Z.
