HUNTLY SPORTS AREA
COMBINED EFFORT The invitation of the Huntly Town Board to the various local associations, sports bodies, etc., to meet in connection with the Taupiri Coal Company’s generous gift of about 12 acres to form a recreation ground was responded to on Thursday evening and was largely attended by representatives of all classes of the community. The chairman, Mr. E. Georg*?, outlined the scheme, pointing out the benefits to be obtained. Concerted action was imperative, as the Taupiri Company would only be able to allow the use of the * present recreation ground for another year. The Government had been asked to reinstate the £SOO loan which had been allowed to lapse, but that was impossible till next year. After lengthy discussion it was decided to open public subscription lists immediately and a seven-a-side football tournament was arranged, under all codes, for November 5, a fancy parade and sports on December 3 and other functions. Committees were set up as follows: Schools. —Messrs. W. W. Edgerley and A. Stewart.
Sports. —Mr. “Will” Sheeran. Football. —Mr. W. North more. Native Entertainment. —Mr. Bruce Stewart.
With the new projects in hand, including the swimming baths, Huntly should be well served from a recreation point, of view.
