ST. JOHN AMBULANCE
TE AROHA BRANCH On Thursday evening the members of the Te Aroha railway staff who succeeded in passing their St. John Ambulance examination in first aid met to celebrate the event. Mr. Hayward presided. Dr. W. R. Lawrence presented the certificates to 15 candidates, at the same time congratulating them upon their success. Mr. A. J. Burrows, on behalf of the staff, presented Dr. Lawrence with a smoker’s outfit and wallet. Dr. Lawrence was the instructor of the class, and in that capacity had carried out the duties in a most pleasant and satisfying manner. Dr. Lawrence suggested the advisability of the members continuing their studies and eventually forming a brigade. Mr. J. Cassidy, secretary to the railway staff, read correspondence from the Railway Department concerning the matter. He contended that Te Aroha possessed sufficient members to form a brigade without the assistance of Frankton, as had been suggested. Mr. Burrows, district secretary of the St. John Ambulance Association, undertook to arrange the formation of additional classes.
The evening’s programme included the usual toasts, together with vocal items.
