MISS STODDART HONOURED A delightful farewell was given in the Lyceum Club last evening by the Society of Musicians to Miss Margaret Stoddart, A.R.C.M. -The large number of members and guests present was ! a tribute to Miss Stoddart*s popularity, j The guests were received by the so- i ciety’s president, Mr. Barry Coney, the vice-president, Miss Alice Law, ' L.R.A.M.. and the council members, j Mrs. Arthur Boult. Mrs. Archdale Tay- | ler, Mrs. Wilcox, Miss Amy Stevenson. • Miss D. Judson, Miss Berta Carr and 1 Mr. Eric Waters. Bowls of flame-coloured gladioli anil sweet-scented Stocks were arranged In ; the lounge and Iceland poppies of flame ! and golden tints made the supperroom look very bright. Miss Stoddart is leaving shortly for South Africa to be married, and the society took this opportunity of presenting her with a gold wristlet watch. Mr. Coney, in making the presentation, said that Miss Stoddart had been a member of the Society of Musicians for some years, and that during that time her delightful personality and artistry had won for her a wide circle of friends and admirers. Her work on ! the concert platform, which had been ; keenly appreciated by discriminating audiences, was mentioned by the pro- . sident, who. in conclusion, wished her every success and all happiness for the future. Mr. Woolley, chairman of the Bohemian Orchestral Society, presented Miss Stoddart with the miniature golden lyre, the badge of good service in the orchestra. He commented on the enthusiastic and wholehearted support Miss Stoddart had given the or- j ehestra, and said that she had been a j “tower of strength” in the first fiddles. Some enjoyable items were contributed ; during the evening. Violin solos by Miss Stoddart, accompanied by Miss Law, were accorded an enthusiastic reception, and songs by Miss Amy Hansard were also keenly appreciated. Air. R. G. Sellar entertained with amusing anecdotes and some first-class conjuring tricks.
