BUMPED AGAIN!

THE OLD WHAU BRIDGE Yet another motor-car has bumped the old Whau Bridge. This time five stanchions were pulled away, but the offender and the vehicle did not suffer the indignity of being plunged into the mud of the waterway. Little is known of the occurrence apart from the actual damage, the offender making good his escape. The excessive speed at which traffic is taking the bridge in its stride was the subject of special comment by the building inspector, Mr. Thomas, at the meeting of the New Lynn Town Board last evening. While working on the bridge he had witnessed buses passing over it at 20 miles an hour. Heavilyladen vehicles were also offenders, and he suggested in this connection that a certain city firm be notified accordingly.

The chairman, Mr. Titchener, intimated that the board would be “able to jump on all and sundry” in about four weeks, when a by-law would be available for the purpose.
