FOR THE UNEMPLOYED
WORTHY NEW LYNN MOVE An eloquent appeal for the board’s offical backing to a movement that aims at assisting New Lynn’s unemployed, via the channel of honest labour, was made by Mr. Oakley Browne to members of the New Lynn Town Board last evening. He suggested, first of all, the holding of a sacred concert, the money accruing therefrom to be subsidised by the board, and again by Parliament. In this way, he considered, a tidy sum would be available for certain works. The Delta Theatre, he would be pleased to grant free for the occasion. Members were sympathetic to a man, and it was agreed to hold a special meeting for the purpose of defining the board’s policy regarding such works, and going seriously into the proposal. The meeting will be held at 8 p.m. on Friday. The sympathy of churches, lodges, girl guides, and boy scouts is also to be sought. The promoter made it clear that under the scheme it was intended to assist only bona-fide New Lynn residents.
