DEATH AT WAIHI

MR. JOHN TURNER The funeral took place on Saturday at Waihi cemetery of Mr. John Turner, who died at his residence, Waihi Beach, from heart failure. Born in Auckland 72 years ago, deceased had been associated with the printing trade over 50 years, having at various times worked on the staffs of newspapers in Napier, Greymouth and Auckland. For several years he was foreman printer for the “New Zealand Observer,” and afterwards editor. Coming to Waihi about 26 years ago, Mr. Turner took over the position of editor to the Waihi “Daily Telegraph,” which post he filled for about 20 years. Leaving the newspaper world about five years ago, Mr. Turner took up farming, but sold his holding after about three years and lived in retirement at Waihi Beach. Deceased, who was twice married, leaves a widow and her son and daughter, and four sons and a daughter by the first marriage.
