ANIMAL WELFARE WEEK
DOMINION CAMPAIGN CO-OPERATION OF YOUNG PEOPLE The annual Animal Welfare Week campaign began to-day. Realising that the future success and progress of animal welfare work remains with the rising generation, the promoters are this year making a special effort to secure the sympathy and co-operation of the young people of New Zealand. The Auckland Education Board has circularised the headmasters of schools throughout the district requesting that the attention of the children be drawn to the work of the oSciety for the Prevenion of Cruelty to Animals, and that suitable addresses be given on “Humane Day in Schools” on Friday next. At the Nelson Street School it has been decided to hold a “Pet’s Day” on Friday, when the children will be allowed to bring their pets to school in the afternoon. On Sunday it is hoped that reference to the work will be made in the various churches and Sunday schools. Slides will also be shown at the leading picture theatres during the week drawing the attention of audiences to the need of animal welfare. Citizens are asked to co-operate individually with acts of kindness to their pets and other animals with whose care and protection they are charged.
