“SUNNY ITALY”
DRILL HALL CARNIVAL A scenic carnival, “Sunny Italy.” will commence in the Drill Hall next Saturday afternoon and will be continued until October 29. The carnival is in aid of the Freemans Bay Community Club and all local associations are assisting. A photographic baby show will be held, Mr. A. Schmidt, Zaza Studio, Symonds Street, photographing the babies free of charge. There will also be a cooking competition, prizes of a latest pattern gas stove being given for the best fruit cake cooked in a gas oven. Every evening a novelty programme will be submitted by well-known artists, including Felix Entertainers, Valeska, Cecil Hall, and the Masked Trio. The sceenry has been painted by Mr. H. Melville and the properties have been lent by the Ladies’ Zionist Society.
Their Majesties the King and Queen have seldom been known to visit a motion picture theatre. It is true that special screenings have been held at the various Royal palaces, but when the Paramount British release picture, “The Flag Lieutenant,” was screened in London, their Majesties saw the picture along with Mr. and Mrs. Public, as also did the Prince of Wales—not once, but several times.
