LAND FOR BATHS The Sunday evening half-hourly : ! lime-table submitted by the Devonport ! Ferry Company was approved by the . Birkenhead Borough Council last night, j subject to the service being continued until 10.30 p.m. from Birkenhead and 11 p.m. from Auckland, as at present. It was also decided to point out the necessity for a launch service during the time between the last night ferry and first morning ferry. A letter was received from the Auckland Harbour Board agreeing to lease |to the council, at £1 a year, for 14 years, an area on the waterfront near i Birkenhead "Wharf, for the erection of l swimming baths. The question was deferred until next meeting. 1 On behalf of a number of residents Mr. I. A. Lynch, wrote intimating that they were not satisfied with the Colo-j nial Sugar Company’s improvements to •bate the smoke nuisance at the Chelsea ; I Works, and it was decided to ask the I company if something further could i not be done. The Blue Star Motor Service wrote intimating that application had been ; made to No. 1 Licensing Authority for ; a variation of charges. The scale submitted Avas approA*ed. but it Avas decided to recommend that the minimum charge to Highbury be 4d instead of 6d. Works costing £ 700 were authorised.
