A.A.A. ACTIVITIES

The map published by the association dealing with the territory up to 40 miles south of Auckland* is in such demand that a recommendation is being made that a fresh issue be printed. The Service Committee is making a recommendation that maps describing short runs round the Waikato district and round the Gisborne district be published. * * * The usual monthly meeting of the council will be held to-morrow evening. For about two years the Hamilton Branch have been discussing the question of their status and their contributions toward the parent association. In the early days of this organisation the parent body had very little to offer the Hamilton branch besides moral support, but with the advent of the service organisation, practically the whole .of the funds of the association are being spent on the open road. At a special general meeting of the Hamilton branch last Tuesday it was resolved by a large majority that it was in the best interest of members in the district to change the status to that of an agency, and thus co-operate more closely with the parent association in the huge programme of service activities that have been undertaken. This move will mean an extension "of the A.A.A.’s service department, added privileges for members, and generally increased facilities for travel. The executive of the Hamilton branch will still remain in offlce and will conduct the local affairs of the association as in the past, the only difference being that the whole of the funds will be paid into the general fund for general distribution throughout the province. * * * Officials of the Rotorua Borough Council have examined the possibilities of a reserve situated within a mile of the Rotorua Post Office, with a view to providing additional camping grounds for motorists. The area comprises about 12 acres. A careful survey of the site proves that it can be developed so as to make an ideal camping ground, quite close to the township and on one of the main highways from Rotorua.
