DUTY ON MAIZE

TAURANGA PROTEST TAURANGA, To-day. At the meeting of the Chamber of Commerce last night a motion protesting against the Customs duties on maize being reduced was carried. The Government’s attention is to be drawn to the danger of the .maize borer being brought into the country. The Postal Department advised the chamber that circumstances do not warrant a mail service via Kaimai. It was reported that about 20 acres in this vicinity was being planted in tobacco.
