A letter was received from the district traffic manager of railways, Ohakune complaining of the danger due to wandering stock in the vicinity of the railway line at Ongarue. In a later discussion on granting licences for the grazing of cows on county roads, the council resolved on the motion of Ors. Caird and Denison that licences for such grazing be only for the hours between sunrise and sunset. In reply to a request from settlers at Te Roto, represented by Mr. J. E. Loft, for a low-level bridge over the Ohura River, it was decided that the resident engineer of the Public Works Department be asked to investigate the position. The resident engineer, Mr. P. Keller, informed the council that a sum of £1,1132 was authorised up to August 19, and the additional permissible authorisation to the end of the financial year would be £I,OOO, but of the total authorised the council would be permitted to claim only 75 per cent. This was in regard to subsidised works in which the county was concerned, and did not apply to Government free grants. The county engineer was authorised to proceed with the repairs of the Rimu and Waikaka Stream bridge. Dealing with a letter from Dr. Mercer, medical officer of health, requesting improved control of the Matiere Cemetery, it was resolved that Messrs. Jebb, Fullerton-Smith, P. Petley, J. It was decided that, owing to excessive damage, the carting of timber must cease on the portion of the main highway between the Upper Ohura Road and the Ongarue River. This prohibition will hold good till further notice. The movers were Crs. Caird and Fullerton-Smith.
