Football on the Hauraki Plains has concluded for the season with the exception of the schools’ competition, which has been delayed on account of the school holidays. Kerepeehi and Ngatea schools will meet at Kerepeehi on Saturday next in the second playoff, the last game having resulted in a draw. The senior grade competitions between fivet teams resulted in the Turua Club winning both the Stretton-Pin-chess competition cup and the Dent knock-out. competition cup and the junior inter-club competitions between six teams resulted in the Ngatea team winning the Patetonga Shield. The senior representatiA*es were again unsuccessful in Avinning the Thames Valley Rugby Union competition for the Frank Poland Memorial Cup, but the junior representativ es took part for the first time in the T.V.R.U.’s Sharebrokers’ Cup competition and won the trophy by an easy margin. One senior player, Ray McPherson, of the Ngatea Club, has been selected to play in the Thames Valley-Waikato - King Country-Bay of Plenty v„ Auckland and North Auckland trials at Auckland on Saturday next. LADIES’ HOCKEY Sufficient ladies’ hockey clubs were formed, late this season to warrant, the formation of a ladies’ hockey associa-
tion, which organised a very successful inter-club competition for a shield presented by the president, Mr. J. H. Xicholson. of Kerepeehi. This was won by the Waitakaruru Club, with the Kopuarahi team as runners-up. Despite the inexperience of most o. the players the association was able I to send a team to the Auckland Associ- I ation’s Country Week Tournament and v.o challenge the Thames Association for the Johnstone Cup. A creditable performance was given and though no j trophies were won very valuable ex- ( perience was gained. The season is now closed, with the j exception of a match with two of the Mount Eden Club teams at Ngatea on Saturday next. The Plains’ teams selected are as follows:—Xo. 1 team. Misses M. Beaver, F. SUMMER SPORTS Followers of tennis and cricket arc now preparing for the opening of the season and most of the nine tennis clubs and six cricket clubs have held or fixed the dates of their annual meetings. In both branches of sport the indications for the coming season are very bright. The 11 tennis clubs in the county own 23 courts and as a rule over 150 players take part every Saturday in matches organised by the Hauraki Plains Tennis Association. For some time there has been a movement in the direction of securing greens for bowling and croquet, and the time may not be far off when clubs are formed. HAURAKI RUGBY REPS.
