DERELICTS REMOVED

MAHsA DERAILMENT WAGONS TAKEN TO NEWMARKET Lull advantage was taken yesterday of the light traffic which uses the suburban railway line on a Sunday to remove the five derailed wagons which left the rails on the night of September 10, at the Alahia railway station. Work was commenced about 7 a.m. and just prior to 5 p.m. the rake of damaged trucks left the Manurewa station for Newmarket, where repairs will be effected. The wagons were too extensively damaged to be replaced on the line, so bogeys were brought from Newmarket and the derelicts were hoisted on to these by means of two powerful salvage cranes, which picked up the enormous bulk of the wagon with the greatest of ease. The most difficult task was the fitting of the temporary bogeys to the wagons. As each truck was placed on the bogej-s it was taken to the Manurewa siding, to await the completion of the full rake of wagons.
