FLOODS AT PAPATOETOE
DRAINAGE BOARD FORMED With the continued flooding of the low-lying land, through which the Puki Nui stream takes its course, the question of forming a drainage area, controlled by a board, has been brought into being. The proposal for the constitution of the board was originated by the residents of Wiri, who held a meeting to consider the question, and passed a resolution asking the Manukau County Council to have a drainage area constituted for the purpose, principally v of straightening and cleaning Puki Nui stream. After heavy rain, such as has been experienced of late, the position gets very acute. Much of the land on both sides of the stream is low-lying, and it has been under water for some time. In conversation with a SUN representative, Mr. F. M. Waters, chairman of the Manukau County Council, stated that up to the present everything is in order, the Minister of Internal Affairs has approved of the formation of the board, the necessary steps have been taken to compile a roll of ratepayers, no objections to the scheme had been received, and nominations are being called for the election of a board. Portions of Clendon, Sunnyside and Model Suburb Estates are included in the area.
