WILL EUCHARISTIC PILGRIMS TOUR N.Z.?

THOUSANDS FOR SYDNEY PROPOSAL TO DIVERT SHIPS Thousands of pilgrims will be crossing the Pacific next year to attend the Eucharistic Congress in Sydney. The New Zealand Tourist League is offering every inducement for these travellers to visit the Dominion. CjPECIAL ships are being chartered to make the trip to Australia from the American Continent and from Europe. It has even been stated that a specially-chartered steamer will cross the Tasman from New Zealand. The veneral Metropolitan of New Zealand, Archbishop Redwood, is in Sydney at the present time discussing with ttie Australian Roman Catholic Bishops details of the greatest religious assembly yet held in the Southern Hemisphere. The conference will take place in September, 1925. The Tourist League has pointed out to the Matson Steamship Company, of San Francisco, and other interested American shipping lines, that ample accommodation will then be available in New Zealand for tourists, both in September and October. TO SEE ROTORUA It is hoped that the steamers will call at Auckland for sufficient time to permit the travellers to at least see Rotorua. When the Carinthia and Franconia visited Auckland during the Christmas season it was a difficult task to find necessary accommodation for the visitors. Should the travellers to the Congress have an opportunity of calling at New Zealand, however, this will not be the case. The Matson Line, it is stated, is arranging for two additional steamers besides the Sierra and the Sonoma. One will be the new Maroro. one of the most modern and best-equipped ships in the company’s service. Two boats from Canada, under the direction of the C.P.R., will also make the trip to Sydney. The league hopes to divert at least one or two of these vessels to New Zealand.
