CONCERNING CUT FLOWERS
Cut flowers will last much longer if a little care is taken in arranging them according to their known likes and dislikes. Flowers, such as stocks, marigolds, wallflowers, etc., should be stripped of their lower leaves. If the foliage is immersed in water it quickly makes the water objectionable. On f *e other hand, flowers with sapless f dry stems should be arranged with a few leaves under the water. Flowering shrubs and all plants with woody stems fade very quickly when taken into the house. But if the bark is removed for a couple of inches from the base and the stem split up for about an inch, the hard stem will be able to absorb the moisture and so prolong the life of the flower.s
