FANCY DRESS BALL
MATIERE CHILDREN The children's fancy dress ball held at Alatiere in aid of the funds of the local cemetery was a very successful event. The music was supplied by Mrs. Armstrong, while extras were rendered by Messrs M. McKenzie and A. K. Margan. Mr. P. Petley, senr., and Air. A. Iv. AJargan acted as Al.C.’s. The girls’ prize for the best dress was won by Aliss Annie Sandison, in the character of a “Sicilian Dancer.” Master Nevil Barrington captured the boys’ competition as “A House to Let.” Two schoolgirls, Alisses Alavis Salter and Ona Kelly, won the Alonte Carlo waltz. Air. C. Robinson thanked all who had assisted to make the ball a success. In the recent elections in the Irish Free State women voted in larger numbers than at the previous general election, and in some cases the proportion of women voters to men was three to one. Eleven women stood, two as Independent, others as members of the various parties. The two Independents were heavily defeated, and only four women were returned.
