FIERCE FOOTER IN THE EAST

SPECTATORS ASSAIL CONTESTANTS WITH BOTTLES AND KNIVES By Cable. —■Press Association.—Copyright Reed. 9.5 a.m. SHANGHAI, Wed. A serious riot resulted from the FarEastern Games Football championship, between China and the Philippines. The largest crowd in the history of local football assembled. The Chinese heckled the visitors, and the early stages of the game were marked by several brawls. Finally there was a free fight among all the players in the centre of the field. The crowd stormed the players, and attacked the Filipinos with bottles and knives. Several were injured, and one Filipino was stabbed seriously. The police finally cleared the ground with bayonets, and the game concluded with police guarding the boundaries. China won.—A. and N.Z.
