Fit and Keen Rugby Team of Waratahs
New South Welshmen Welcomed at Plymouth TOUR OF BRITAIN By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright Recti. 9.5 a.m. LONDON, Wednesday. In a typical English Sea mist, the Ormonde reached Plymouth Harbour. Directly the anchor dropped, RearAdmiral Royds and a dozen members of the International Rugby Board, representing England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland, and a representative of the High Commissioner, came aboard, officially welcoming the players on the boat deck. Admiral Royds said: “We are looking forward to learning much from the New South Wales exposition of the game, and we of its parent country hope that the Waratahs will find that the Homeland has maintained a high standard of efficiency, cleanness, and true amateurism, so desirable in the great national game. I hope the tour will cement the relations between the Dominions and the Home countries.” The team is looking wonderfully well and cheery. After facing a battery of cameramen, they boarded a tender, arid landed at the docks, where the Mayor accorded them a civic welcome. Interviewed by the Australian. Press Association, J. Wallace, the captain, said: “We are all fine; we thoroughly enjoyed the voyage. We were not able to do any Rugger training, but we kept fit with physical jerks and deck games. We expect to be in full fighting trim shortly.” Mr. Shaw, manager of the team, said: “The boys are as keen as mustard. They should do well.” Except for slight seasickness on a few rough days, the voyage was most happy.—A. and N.Z.
