This, following on the Prussian Gov* | ernment’s order that every public i building must fly the Republican Flag • on Constitution Day has revived the flag controversy which caused Dr. Luther’s downfall last year. The municipality has added fuel to the flames by ordering the ci\lc authorities to boycott' hotels refusing to fly the Republican flag. This has resulted in the Ober burgernaster declining invitations to dinners. The Nationalists’ resentment at Jessler’s order is only reduced by the knowledge that President Hindenburg desires a settlement. The only solution to the problem appears to be in flying both flags together.—A. and N.Z.
