THEATRE PATRON WARNED OF FIRE
MENTAL TELEPATHY Members of the audience at His Majesty’s Theatre last evening were treated to an extraordinary example of mental telepathy. During Carter the Great’s performance he announced that Miss Evelyn Maxwell had received a message that a fire had broken out in the home of a Mr. Owen Self. Mr. Carter asked if there were a man of that name in the theatre. Mr. Self was sitting in the gallery, and when he answered Mr. Carter said that Miss Maxwell had had a mental message that something was wrong, and that she had seen fire. Mr. Self thought at first it was a hoax, but he was advised by the doorkeeper to get to the nearest telephone and ring up. Apparently the message was correct, for Mr. Self’s home at Papatoetoe was completely destroyed by fire. This morning Mr. Carter said that Miss Maxwell was not ready for her performance on the stage, but he felt that he should announce the message she had received. An account of the fire will be found in the “Province and Suburb” columns.
