AVONDALE GOES DANCING

SUCCESSFUL CHURCH BALL The respective committees working on behalf of the candidates in the Catholic Queen Carnival at Avondale are not sparing themselves in the effort to place their respective candidates in the position of being crowned. First one committee, then another, vie with each other in the desire to eclipse the various sources of revenue in the form of socials, card parties, dances, etc., to say nothing of the numerous evenings that have been held. The latest attraction provided by a children’s and adults’ plain and fancy ball, in support of Kathleen Tobin, was highly successful. Held in the main Avondale Hall, it was freely patronised, visitors from the city and surrounding districts assisting the function to a successful issue. Prizes for the best fancy costumes were awarded as follows: Girls, under 10 years, Betty Postleweight, “Kewpie," 1; Joan Anderson, “Bride,” 2; Pat Postleweight, “Wedding Cake,” 3. Boys, under 10 years: Trevor Froggart, “Bridegroom,”* 1: Leo Tobin, “Mad Hatter,” 2; Frank Postleweight, “Bottle of Wine,” 3. Girls, over 10 years: Dora Lavery, “Indian,” 1; K. Kellaway, “Dutch Girl,” 2. Boys, over 10 years: Keith Taylor, “A Sleepless Night,” 1; Desmond Atkinson, “Indian Boy,” 2. Ladies’ prizes were won by Miss Kerry, “Keep Off the Grass,” 1; Mrs. Green, “Day and Night,” 2. A prize was also won by Mr. Tobin, “Minstrel Nigger.” The children enjoyed every moment of the evening, while the adults could not resist the dance music. The wee ones were also prominent when they were faced with a delectable supper. The features mentioned, plus an excellent floor, completed a combination that vouchsafed success.
