SHIELD - HOLDERS
MANAWHENUA PLEASED MATCH WITH AUCKLAND THE Manawhenua footballers, who are now in Auckland, were pleased to learn this morning that they become definite holders of the Ranfurly Shield, through the dismissal of Hawke’s Bay’s appeal to the New Zealand Rugby Union. Whether the team is the Dominion’s best side is a different question. A. week before Manawhenua beat Wairarapa, thus taking over the burden of the latter’s dispute with Hawke’s Bay, the red, white and blues were beaten 16—0 by Hawke’s Bay. Still, Manawhenua is a fine, sporting side, which has played good football for many seasons, and none will grudge it the championship title is,now possesses.
Hawke’s Bay still has the shield at Napier, but presumably will now hand it over, unless the threat to go to the Supreme Court is putin to effect. MANAWHENUA TEAM The members of the Manawhenua touring team, with ages and weights,
