SYDNEY SUGGESTION ALDERMEN AS MANNEQUINS Despite the Mayor’s repeated calls for volunteers, none of the Waverley, Sydney, aldermen would act as a mannequin to exhibit skirted swimming costumes. Paterson, submitting photographs of costumes used in America. Aid. Polyblank: 1 protest every strongly against the adoption of skirts. They seem all right in pictures, and when they are dry, but when they get wet, they are like lead. If we adopt them Bondi will be known as the “Skirty Beach.” I do not think any aldermen in this council hp/ve worn skirts. Aid. blunter: 1 have. Aid. Polyblank: You’re a liar. The Mayor made Aid. Polyblank withdraw his remark, and later threatened to eject both him and Aid. Hunter. "Impede Speed” Aid. Williams said that most swimmers objected to skirts, because they impeded speed in the water. Aid. McKee told the council that the costumes would interfere with rescue work. Council decided that when restocking the surf shed, a supply of both styles of costumes should be laid in.
