PAPAKURA TENNIS BALL
A BRILLIANT SUCCESS The Papakura Lawn Tennis Club’s annual ball, held last Thursday evening, was a very decided success. The attendance was large, representatives being present from all the surrounding clubs. The decorative scheme was unique, streamers of red and white, the club’s colours, tennis nets, and racquets and balls being utilised. Hulme’s orchestra sped the hours in musical fashion for the dancers, whose pleasure was heightened by the arrangements of a capable committee. The delightful supper added to the evening’s success. SUNDAY SCHOOL SOCIAL AT HUNTLY The half-yearly Presbyterian social held in connection with the Sunday School took place last Tuesday evening at Huntly. when a most enjoyable evening was spent. Items were given by the following: Annie Parkes, Aluriel Leonard, Daphne Voltz, Margaret Fleming, Ruby Robinson, Alarga.ret Henderson, Dallas Northmore, Ralph Fleming, Ken Fairhurst and lan Hutchison.
A dialogue, “Old Mother Goose.” was greatly appreciated by the audience and the participants in the comedy carried out their parts extremely well.
SHIPPING OFFICERS’ BALL A BRIGHT FUNCTION The annual ball of the Shipping Officers’ Guild was held in the Masonic Hall last evening and was a very successful function despite the wet weather. The hall was hung with flags and blue and gold streamers, and a tine floor and lively music by the Kit Cat Orchestra were highly appreciated by a large number of dancers. Balloons and streamers were provided, and the claret cup, which was the big feature of the evening, was very popular. Many charming frocks were worn by the ladies. Among those present were: Mrs. D. STAFF DANCE SOCIAL | CHECKER TAXICAB COMPANY The third dance and social evening of its season was held last night by the Employees’ Social Club of the Checker Taxi- cab Company. More than 50 couples were present in the company’s building in Wellesley Street, where the function was held. Aliss Lillis and her orchestra played a bright selection of music, and vocal items were contributed by Air. Philip Lewis’s quartette and Air. Hogan. Air. Percy Free, the managing director, was presented during the evening with a silver cup for his youngest child. The presentation was made by Air. C. Lamber on behalf of the drivers and the administrative staff.
