DIVIDED CONTROL

TOO MUCH EXPENSE Electricity for the Tauranga County is under the control of three different public bodies, the borough council owns the generating works and supplies the borough; the Te Puke Town Board, under an agreement with the Tauranga Borough, gets the energy in bulk and controls the distribLition in its town area; the Tauranga Power Board has the licence for the county, and has reticulated the greater part of the farming portions of the district. This means that there are three administrative bodies with their separate expenses. The Te Puke branch of the Farmers’ Union considers that if these controlling bodies amalgamate, there would, be a large saving in overhead expenses, and hence a corresponding decrease in the charge for energy to the consumer. It has decided to endeavour to bring about this amalgamation, and has written to the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. J. Q. Coates, and also to the bodies concerned. If this should be brought about the district should have one of the cheapest systems in the Dominion.
