TAUPO FISHING
FACILITIES FOR ANGLERS AGREEMENT WITH MAORIS Press Association. WELLINGTON, Thursday. Recently it was announced that the public would be given the right to use a chain width round Lake Taupo, and a further move in the interests of fishermen is the resumption by the Government of certain private lands near Whakaipo Bay. “There have been many improvements made,” said the Hon. R. F. Bollard, Minister of Internal Affairs, “since Mr. Coates, as Minister of Native Affairs, arrived at an agreement with the Maoris to allow Government control of their rights to lands used by trout fishermen. There is no doubt that the agreement has afforded the means of developing matters in the interests of those who ply their rods in the district. On property resumed by the Government in Whakaipo Bay, there is a house which will be available for the use of anglers at a moderate rental. It is proposed to extend the accommodation if it is found insufficient.” Mr. Bollard further stated that a report was being obtained regarding the construction of a suitable track giving necessary road access to Whakaipo Bay, either by land or water.
