FOOL-PROOF VOTING
AUTOMATIC POLL REGISTER GORE MAN’S INVENTION (THE SUN’S Parliamentary Reporter .) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. Voting at elections in New Zealand will be greatly simplified if an automatic machine for recording votes, which is to be demonstrated to Ministers and members of Parliament tomorrow fulfils the claims of its Inventor, Mr. Samuel Miller, of Gore. This voting machine, Mr. Miller claims, is absolutely foolproof. It eliminates informal voting. All that the voter has to do is to press a key labelled with the name of the candidate and the vote is recorded on a moving paper roll. The machine counts the number of votes recorded, and provides a secret, yet traceable, record. It is claimed that the invention can also be used for preferential voting, if desired.
