KAURI-GUM LEVY

MERCHANTS MEET BOARD ISSUING REPORT The export levy made by the Kauri Gum Board has given brokers and others interested considerable concern during the last week or so. Merchants have been accustomed to make rule of thumb charges to the digger. The percentage levy of the board calls for additional book work and this it is stated will be passed on to the producer with the benefit of a doubt always registering on the side of the middleman. Other small grievances are also registered against the board which more or less acts as a control body on what was previously a free marSeveral meetings have bean held, but as yet nothing tangible has resulted. Questioned as to whether he could throw any light on to the reason for the merchants’ grievances. Mr. Wynyard, chairman of the Kauri Gum Control Board, was reticent. The board was, he did say, however, prepared to work in with the exporter. Within the next few days, however, the board would be issuing a statement of policy report of operations to date. _ „ As far as present market movements are concerned there is little to report. Two small orders for chips are reported to have been placed during the past week. Bled bush, if it is well got up, sells as soon as it comes on to the market. Small quantities of white gums have passed at low pricebut there is no buoyancy in the market.
