MOTHERS’ UNION AT PAPATOETOE

The monthly meeting of the Papatoetoe branch of the Mothers’ Union was held in St. George’s Hall, Papatoetoe, on Thursday, when there was a good attendance pf members and friends. Mrs. F. H. Leonard read the prayers and intercessions, and Miss L. Lang presided at the organ. Prior to the afternoon speaker arriving Mrs. Leonard answered a number of questions and also explained how best to answer the queries of children. Dr. E. Buckley Turkington addressed the meeting and explained what excellent work had been done by the National Council of Women, Y.W.C.A., Girl Guides and Brownies, and all the other organisations of women formed for their mutual help. Child welfare was the most important thing and every woman of every country should have an outline for the future. The speaker went on to explain how the present influences the future and women in particular have responsibilities which they cannot afford to shirk. At the conclusion of the address a dainty afternoon tea was dispensed by Mrs. T. Richards and Mrs. A. J. Cowling.
