ENGLAND V. THE REST Gy Cable.—JPress Association.—Copyright LONDON, Saturday. In the cricket match England versus the Rest, the latter in their first innings made 245. Sandham made 27. Hearne 110 not out. and Bates 49. Larwood, Tate and Freeman took wickets cheaply. . England had made 7 runs for no wickets (Hobbs 4. Sutcliffe 2) when stumps were drawn. The match began in dull and threatening weather on a soft wicket. Sibbles replaced Nichols. Jackson won the toss and Percy Holmes and Sandham opened to the bowling of Tate and Larwood. At lunch one wicket was down for Ci 9. The cricket was not exhilarating but it was sound and interesting. At the tea adjournment the score was 212 for four wickets. Hearne batted carefully and took 105 minutes to reach 50. He carried his bat and played a sound and solid innings, which occupied four and a-half hours out of the five hours during which the team batted. —A. and X.Z.-Sun.
