IN THE MARKET PLACE

GOOD TONE PREVAILS DEMAND FOR FRUIT Though there is not the turnover in the fruit sections experienced during the warmer months, business generally in the iCty Marts is in good tone. Citrus friuts, particularly oranges and lemons, are meeting with a ready sale at firm prices. Good firm apples and pears also find a strong market. Local stocks of sub-tropical fruit are kept up by a shipment from Australia unloaded to-day. The Waipahi from the Cook Group lands to-morrow 8,600 cases of oranges, 1,500 cases of tomatoes, and 700 eases of bananas. A large portion of the last Tofua banana shipment, ripening quickly in a rather inferior condition, lowered prices considerably during the past week, but the market is now firmer. In the field, garden and produce section most lines are well supplied "and prices remain within the range of the average housewife.
