MASQUERADE BALL
AT AVONDALE A successful and very enjoyable masquerade ball was held in the Avondale Town Hall last Monday in aid of the carnival queen, Kathleen Tobin. The proceeds of this queen carnival are to be devoted to St. Mary’s Convent and Church fund, and the carnival coffers must have been appreciably enlarged by Monday’s ball. The Misses Beresford acted as judges of the costumes and the prizes were awarded to Miss A. Watson, for the most original dress, that of a Maori princess, and to Miss Bell, who was dressed as THE SUN. In the men’s section the prizes were carried off by Mr. Tobin, as Patty Cakes, and Mr Blott as the “Cook.” Two special prizes were awarded to Mr. Rowe, as “Good Night,” and to Mr. Braithwaite, as “A Jew.” Mr. Braithwaite carried out the duties of master of ceremonies and the enjoyable selection of dance music was supplied by Clark’s Orchestra.
