THE CITY BEAUTIFUL
LECTURE TO LYCEUM CLUB Every Government should seek the combined point of view of men and women, for the instincts of beauty and orderly development were characteristic of both sexes, said Mr. W. Page Rowe in addressing the Lyceum Club at luncheon yesterday. Mr. Rowe, speaking of the meaning of Town Planning, said that Auckland had come to her beauty by chance. Areas settled by small farmers about the city had become boroughs and had fused into the city without prevision or definite plan, but a plan was now necessary for present and future needs. In 40 or 50 years’ time if it continued to grow at the present rate, Auckland would be as big as Sydney. Mr. Rowe adversely criticised the reclamation of Hobson Bay for an industrial area.. The beauty of the waterfront she»uld be conserved at all costs.
