HENDERSON SETTLER DEAD
LATE MR. JOHN CANTWELL An early settler in the Henderson district, Mr. John Cantwell, died yesterday at the age of 85. Mr. Cantwell came to New Zealand with Ins parents in 1859, and the family settled at Avondale, and later at Waikumete. As a young man Mr. Cantwell engaged in farming at Henderson.
For about 19 years he was a member, and for some time chairman, of the Henderson School Committee, and for many years was superintendent of the Henderson Church of England Sunday School. He married a daughter of Mr. James Owen, a pioneer settler.
Mr. Cantwell is survived by his widow, four sons and four daughters, Mr. J. O. Cantwell, Devonport; Mr. R Cantwell, Otahuhu: Mr. D. Cantwell. Raetihi; Mr. W. Cantwell, Avondale: Mrs. R. Kipe, Henderson; Mrs. W. Dodds, Otaki: Mrs. Pengellv. Mount Roskill; and Mrs. R. English, Melbourne.
