FAIR RUN FOR DAYLIGHT SAVING
MR. COATES’S PROMISE ANSWER TO DEPUTATION (THE SUN’S Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. The Right Hon. J. G. Coates said today that he had promised Mr. T. K. Sidey a fair run with his Daylight Saving Bill, and had given an undertaking not to manipulate the machinery, which was always available if required, to retard the progress of the measure. The House could approach it with an open mind. “You know my views on this,” he added, “and you cannot get my personal support to the bill. I know some of the difficulties it presents to farmers, and perhaps I magnify them. I don’t know.”
This was in reply to a deputation from manufacturers, the medical profession, the Chamber of Commerce, and shipping companies, asking for an expeditious passage to the bill. Mr. Coates said that the second reading would be taken to-day, then the House could have the measure in hand.
