TARANAKI LANDOWNER DEAD

LATE MR. J. M. GATENBY A well-known resident of Mangatoki and a prominent Taranaki landowner, Mr. Joshua Mellor Gatenby, has died at Hawera. Born in Yorkshire, England, in 1879, Mr. Gatenby was brought to New Zealand by his parents in the same year Educated at the Auckland Grammar School and Queen’s College, Auckland, he took up farming in the North at a early age. He received a legacy from a former employer and in 1900 settled in Taranaki, dairy-farming on a large scale at Mangatoki and Ngaere. Mr. Gatenby is survived by his wife, three sons and six daughters.

A large number of settlers from all parts of Taranaki attended the interment at Eltham.
