PRESBYTERIAN FINANCE
ARREARS TOTAL £1,093 POOR RESPONSE TO APPEAL T>OINTED comment on the unsatisfactory response of Auckland Presbyterians to the annual demands made upon them, for the financial assistance of their church activities as a whole, was made by members of the Auckland Presbytery last evening. The report presented by the convener of the property and finance committee, Mr. S. J. Harbutt, revealed a deficit of £1,093, or in other words the Auckland Presbytery contributed only three-quarters of the General Assembly’s assessment. The Assembly’s budget for the year showed that out of a total of £35,932 required for church works, the share of the Auckland Presbytery was £4,200. The committee submitted allocations among the congregations amounting to £4,300. It drew attention to the very unsatisfactory response made by a great many churches. The bare average was 14s 4d for each member last year. Only nine congregations reached the average. Five failed to contribute at all, and 33 others were below the average, thus causing the deficit. The report was adopted.
