POPULAR SPORTS SECRETARY
Mr. J. Excell, of Owhango, in hii position as secretary of the Owhango Sports Club and Axemen’s Association, one of the largest of its kind in the Dominion, is probably among the bestknown sportsmen in the North Island, and his work for the club he represent' has very largely helped to make its meetings the second largest in New Zealand. Mr. Excell has just had his services recognised by the executive, which presented him with a gold watch as a mark of appreciation for the timt and energy he has put into sports club work. The gift was inscri'bed as follows: “Presented to J. Excell, Esq, by the Owhanga Sports Club, for ser- | vices rendered. June 4, 1921.” Mr. i Excell holds the position of postmaster at Owhango. and his business ability has been of great value to the club, with which he has been associated as secretary for the past four years.
