WAITEMATA BRIDGE

RESOLUTION FROM KAIPARA DUPLICATION OF RAILWAYS The Kaipara Chamber of Commerce forwarded a resolution seeking the cooperation of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce to press on the Government the necessity for prosecuting the Waitemata bridge scheme as an alternative to the proposed duplication of the railway between Auckland and New Lynn. A further letter has been received by the chamber from a firm of engineers offering to place its views on the Waitemata bridge before the chamber. Doubt was expressed at a recent executive meeting as to whether the time was ripe for the construction of this bridge, and as to whether the construction, in any case, would postpone for many years the necessity of the duplication of the western suburban line. It w r as decided, however, before making any recommendation to the council of the chamber, to write to the Kaipara Chamber seeking further facts and figures. The question will be further discussed by the chamber.
