CANAL SCHEME
OPPOSED IN_ WAIKATO BURDEN TOO HEAVY
(From Our Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, To-day.
The scheme for a canal between Auckland and Waikato, via Waiuku, which is being revived, is not meeting with the support of some local bodies in this district. Waipa County Council at yesterday’s meeting and Waikato County Council at the meeting to-day, decided against the scheme on the ground that the time was inopportune and the burden would be too great for the ratepayers to bear at present.
